Hebrew: קופטים

The indigenous Christians of Egypt, whose church traces to Saint Mark in Alexandria and whose language is the last stage of ancient Egyptian. They were the majority of Egypt until roughly the 14th century, when jizya pressure and Mamluk persecution broke it, and are about a tenth of the population now, the largest Christian community in the Middle East.
