The world’s most-read description of Hamas. In 2005 the opening said plainly that Hamas “is listed as a terrorist group by the European Union, Canada, the United States, and Israel”. Today’s opening leads with the translation of its name, Islamic Resistance Movement, and “militant” is gone from the opening entirely. “Resistance” has risen from 1 to 6.

Abdel Aziz al-Rantisi
Section titled “Abdel Aziz al-Rantisi”Hamas co-founder, killed in 2004. The 2005 opening carried two designations: “He was considered a terrorist by the United States and the European Union for advocating suicide bombing of civilians” and the same finding by Israel. Today’s opening has no terror-family word at all; he is introduced as a popular organizer during the First Intifada.

Palestinian Christians
Section titled “Palestinian Christians”The 2005 opening reported that “Palestinian Islamists in the West Bank are using violence and threats of terror to scare Christians out of Palestine”.
