Tawriya

A sanctioned double meaning (also tawriyah): a sentence that is literally true but built so the listener takes a false meaning the speaker never intended in his own mind. Classical jurists permitted it to escape danger and, in some readings, to mislead an opponent. Paired with taqiyya and kitman, it lets a speaker deny something to a non-Muslim audience, an affiliation, an intent, a translation, while privately holding the words true on a technicality. The mechanism behind a moderate face over an unchanged goal.
