Maulvi Nazir: what Wikipedia removed
Maulvi Nazir was a Pakistani Taliban commander who openly supported Mullah Omar and Osama bin Laden and, as reported, waged jihad in Afghanistan. Through 2020 the opening stated that “Nazir openly supports Mullah Omar and Osama bin Laden, and wages jihad in Afghanistan.” Today’s opening describes him only as “a prominent commander of the Pakistani Taliban,” with jihad surviving twice elsewhere in the article, not the opening. A reader arriving now does not learn that he openly supported Osama bin Laden or that his activity was described as waging jihad.
The word “jihad” appeared 2 times in this article’s opening at its peak, in 2015. Today the opening carries none; the body carries 2. Checked against the full current article on 2026-08-01.
