Khazars

A medieval Turkic steppe empire (roughly 7th–10th century) whose ruling elite reportedly adopted Judaism. Antisemites weaponise it into the claim that Ashkenazi Jews descend from Khazar converts, not the ancient Israelites, and so are “fake” Jews with no tie to the land. Genome-wide genetics refute it: Ashkenazi, Sephardi and Mizrahi Jews all share substantial Middle Eastern ancestry and trace to the Levant, with no detectable Khazar contribution. The Khazar empire is real history; the use made of it is a fabrication.
