The Farhud
The pogrom against the Jews of Baghdad on 1 to 2 June 1941, incited by pro-Nazi propaganda and the circle of the exiled Grand Mufti. Mobs murdered around 180 Jews and looted thousands of homes and shops, breaking the confidence of a community 2,600 years old and foreshadowing the expulsion of Iraq’s Jews.
