The Peel Commission

The British royal commission that in 1937 first proposed partitioning Mandatory Palestine into a Jewish state and an Arab state. The Zionist leadership accepted partition as a basis for talks despite the tiny borders offered; the Arab leadership rejected it outright, the first of many refused partitions.
