Promised Land

Hebrew: הָאָרֶץ הַמּוּבְטַחַת

The land pledged to Abraham’s descendants in Genesis, and the source of the line that Jews claim Israel because of a promise made 3,000 years ago. The covenant is conditional in its own text, with exile written in as the penalty (Leviticus 26, Deuteronomy 28), and the same books have the patriarchs buy the ground at Hebron, Shechem and the Temple Mount rather than claim it by grant. Israel’s actual case is archaeological, demographic and legal: no scripture is cited in the San Remo resolution, the League of Nations Mandate, UN Resolution 181 or Israel’s admission to the UN.
