2004 Istanbul restaurant attack: what Wikipedia removed

A 2004 gun-and-bomb attack on an Istanbul restaurant frequented by freemasons killed one waiter and was claimed by an al-Qaeda affiliated group. Through 2010 the opening explained: “Freemasonists are considered as pro-Zionist among Islamist circles in Turkey.” Today’s opening no longer explains why freemasons were targeted; the word “islamist” survives once elsewhere in the article. A reader today does not learn that the attackers’ target was chosen because Islamist circles in Turkey regard freemasons as pro-Zionist.
