The doctrine that a later Qur’anic verse can cancel an earlier one (Qur’an 2:106). It is why the gentle Meccan verses can’t settle a question on their own, a major classical line held the militant 9:5 abrogated the verses of forbearance, though al-Suyūṭī narrowed genuine abrogation to ~20 cases.
