Kinneret
Hebrew: כִּנֶּרֶת
The Hebrew name for the Sea of Galilee, Israel’s largest freshwater lake, fed by the Jordan. The name is biblical (Chinnereth, Numbers 34:11), older than the Christian “Sea of Galilee.” On its western shore stands Tiberias, where the Mishnah and the Jerusalem Talmud were sealed and the Sanhedrin held its final seat.
