The opening today calls it a terrorist attack but drops the word massacre, which survives twice in the body. A reader today no longer sees the event named a massacre in the opening paragraph.

An ambush attack known as the Avivim school bus massacre took place on May 8 , 1970 near Avivim, an agricultural community in Israel founded in 1963 by Moroccan immigrants. It was perpetrated by Palestinian terrorists who crossed the border with Lebanon . The attack caused the death of nine children aged between six and nine and three adults, and left nineteen others maimed. Subsequently, the prevention of such attacks was cited as a ground for Israel’s Operation Litani in 1978 .
