Würzburg train attack: what Wikipedia removed
A 17-year-old Afghan refugee stabbed five people on a train near Würzburg in 2016 and was shot dead after attacking police with an axe. Through 2020 the opening quoted investigators directly: “The state office of criminal investigations called it a terrorist attack with an Islamist religious motive.” Today the opening keeps that he was in contact with Islamic State members but drops investigators’ own characterization; the word survives once in the article body, not the opening. A reader today does not learn that German criminal investigators themselves labeled the attack’s motive Islamist.
The word “islamist” appeared 1 times in this article’s opening at its peak, in 2020. Today the opening carries none; the body carries 1. Checked against the full current article on 2026-08-01.
