Yazidis

A Kurdish-speaking religious minority of northern Iraq with an ancient syncretic faith centred on Melek Taus, the Peacock Angel. Treated as devil-worshippers by their neighbours for centuries and subjected to repeated massacres, they were the target of a genocide by Islamic State at Sinjar in 2014: thousands killed, thousands of women and girls enslaved.
