Settler

Strictly, a settler is a Jew living in a community in the West Bank (Judea and Samaria), territory whose status is disputed. In activist usage the word is stretched far past that, applied to any Jewish Israeli, including those in Tel Aviv or Haifa inside the pre-1967 lines, and even to Jews abroad. The stretch is deliberate: it reframes the entire Jewish presence in the land as illegitimate colonisation rather than a dispute over specific territory, erasing the indigenous Jewish tie to the region. When “settler” comes to mean “any Jew here,” it is no longer about settlements.
