In 2005 the opening said “the Byzantines Christians wanted and encouraged more Anti-Semitism,” describing “her anti-Semitic view which resulted in the destruction of synagogues and places of learning.” Today’s opening covers the text’s origin and naming, with no mention of this persecution; the word does not appear anywhere in the article. A reader today does not learn that Byzantine Christian antisemitism, including the destruction of synagogues, is part of the historical setting in which the Jerusalem Talmud was compiled.
