Romania was one of the first countries to recognize the State of Palestine in 1988 and had hosted a PLO office in Bucharest since 1974. Through October 2023 the opening said many Palestinian militants were trained in Romania and that most of the weapons the PLO used against Israel came from Romania and the Soviet Bloc. Today the opening carries none of that, and the word is nowhere in the article. A reader today learns Romania’s diplomatic recognition of Palestine, and not that it trained militants and supplied weapons used against Israel.
