Globalize the Intifada
A protest chant calling to spread the intifada worldwide. Intifada is Arabic for “shaking off,” but the two Palestinian intifadas were not peaceful protest: the Second Intifada (2000–05) was a wave of suicide bombings and shootings that murdered around a thousand Israeli civilians in buses, cafes and pizzerias. To “globalize” that is to call for the same campaign of violence against Jews and Israelis everywhere, which is how it lands on campuses and streets where Jewish students are targeted. Defenders insist it means only global solidarity; the history of what an intifada actually was makes that hard to credit.
