The Islamic Jihad Organization was a Lebanese Shia militia behind the 1983 bombings of the US embassy and MNF peacekeeping barracks in Beirut. Through 2015 the opening called it “a Shia Islamist militia known for its activities in the 1980s.” Today the opening calls it only “a Lebanese Shia militia,” the word Islamist surviving three times in the body. A reader today learns the militia was Shia and does not learn that Wikipedia’s own text once called it Islamist.
