The article covers Palestinians detained by Israel in the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Through 2020 the opening said prisoners’ charges were commonly based on being members of illegal organizations, meaning formerly the PLO, and now Hamas or Islamic Jihad, or of taking part in sabotage against Israelis. Today the opening speaks generally of terrorism charges or membership in an illegal terrorist organization such as Hamas, without naming Islamic Jihad, and the word jihad survives eight times in the body.
