Gaza envelope: what Wikipedia removed
The Gaza envelope is the strip of southern Israel within 7 kilometers of the Gaza Strip border. The 2015 opening said communities there “have been suffering from incessant terrorist attacks such as infiltration attempts, mortar shells and Qassam rockets,” and that the Knesset acted “after several years of terrorist attacks.” Today’s opening describes the area only as being “within range of mortar shells and Qassam rockets launched from the Gaza Strip,” without the word terrorist; it survives once elsewhere in the article. A reader arriving at the opening today learns the Gaza envelope is within range of rocket fire, and not that Wikipedia’s own opening once called that fire, and the infiltrations alongside it, terrorist attacks.
