Kohen & Levi

The surviving tribal lines within the Jewish people. Kohanim are priests descended from Aaron; Levi’im are the wider tribe of Levi. The status still passes father to son, marked by surnames like Cohen, Katz and Levy and by honors in the synagogue. Genetics found a shared “Cohen” Y-chromosome signature, a sign of a common priestly ancestor.
